Bwanadik – Funny name but great IP information app

February 8, 2016 Vik Leave a Comment

  • Product Name: Bwanadik
  • Cost: Freeware
  • Affiliate Link: http://www.jschilling.net/sw_bwanadik.php
  • Alternatives: Use MAC OS inbuilt terminal, and enter command “ifconfig”
  • Additional Reading: None

If you ever wanted to quickly find your ip address, you can Command + Spacebar, type terminal, Hit enter, Type “ifconfig” This command will give all addresses associated with your wireless card and wired as well.

BUT, if you ever wanted to find this information without typing anything – you would use Bwanadik. This neat application resides in your menu bar and will give you your internal as well as external Ip addresses. Color coded to give you instant IP address information.

Here are the color codes taken directly from Bwanadik’s Web site:

  • Blue: you are connected to the internet, but the server that gives the external (WAN) IP address is busy
  • Red: internet connection is not available
  • Gray: internet connection not available, reason unknown.
  • Yellow: BwanaDik is checking the settings and getting your external (WAN) IP address.

Download here and Save the app.

Go to your downloads folder and double click the BwanaDik.dmg to mount it. Next drag the application to the “Applications” folder ( “Command + Shift + A”) to open your Applications folder. Now click and drag bwanadik to your applications folder. This will install the app.

Launch Bwanadik by hitting “Option + Spacebar” and typing BwanaDik to launch it. See the little Green, Red or Yellow ball on the top bar? If you are connected to a network and have a valid IP address, you should see a Green Circle. Here are the color code explanations directly from the author.

If you click on the colored circle, you will see all your IPs like below.

There you have it, another quick and simple way to view all your IPs, no need for surfing to an external site to see all your IPs. Additionally you avoid terminal if you like GUI boxes. Make sure you check the other posts here, if you would like any tips added, Email me here!

And as always you would not see this helpful blog ( I hope its helpful) without a domain name and hosting from Fatcow, $5 something a month for unlimited space. If you’re in the market for a domain and Web hosting please use my affiliate link. Thanks again!
