Features ahead!!
So again If you are in the market to get a domain name or hosting account, I highly recommend using Fatcow’s hosting services. Here are the some of the reasons. So what does OODLES mean? You get unlimited Disk space, Bandwidth, Number of Domains you can host and plenty more. If you’re not interested in installing WordPress or Joomla, you can use the Website Builder with a graphical interface to create your Web site. Here are some of the inner screens once you get a hosting account.
Control Panel
Once you sign up for the hosting account, you are greeted with your control panel. I’ll be updating the post with a video showing you how to navigate as well, but for now I’ll do my best to show you via pictures.
1. Simplescripts
Simplescripts / MoJo Marketplace – Fatcow offers a ton of free scripts that can be installed by # One Click, you don’t need to install multiple items, just click the script you want and click to install it. Here are some of the categories and scripts that can be installed. The screenshot below is only focusing on the “One Click” Installs for Blogs & Website Builders.
2. FTP
The FTP link – provides you with a interface to get FTP server information and the user accounts that you can create for a user to access the hosting server. When you sign up for the hosting account, your credentials are sent to you in an email and you can also use them to login via a FTP server. Write down the username, password and FTP Home Directory, if you want to use a FTP client to view your files, you will need this information.
3. File Manager
The File Manager – provides an interface where users can upload, download, move, rename etc files. This interface is good for quick changes to folder structure if you are already logged into the Fatcow control panel. If you want a higher level of control, you can also use a FTP client like WinScp for Windows or Cyberduck for Mac. If you have multiple domain names but One hosting account with Fatcow, you can create subfolders and tie a domain to to, and you can continue to install a sub WordPress or joomla setup on that domain. I know the text is muddy, some more screenshots under step 5 for domain central on how the File Manager ties in.
4. Mail Central
Hey Everyone loves email! We just hate spam. Well Fatcow really has you covered there. They have an inline Spam Scanning service what monitors all inbound and outbound email sent via FatCow’s servers. But this is the interface where you can create email accounts for related to your domain. Below I’m going to be creating a email account for a sub domain “onlinesafety4kids.com” that I own.
5. Domain Central
The Domain Central page allows you to redirect your domains to a “primary” domain, point it to a subdirectory, lock the transfer of the domain and lists the number of mailboxes you have.
Sorry for the blurring the other domains. have to protect the domains as much as possible.
Here is a breakdown of what is happening below:
- Pointers tab and it is currently pointing to the home directory, which means when some enters http://www.onlinesafety4kids.com it would take the viewer to www.thecybersecurityblog.com.
- This is where i can switch it either a subdirectory, URL or a Parked domain. If i select a subdirectory like below
- and give the directory a name, I can go back into File Manager OR simple scripts and install a new install of WordPress or Joomla onto that subdirectory. Lets see if “OS4K” is listed in the File Manager first.
6. WordPress Installs
Here we are going to be installing wordpress for one of the domains.
Double check if the folder was made: Success! The directory had been made, now we can go into the Simple Scripts
Head to the main Dashboard
Click on the SimpleScripts icon
Explore the MOJO marketplace
Click on the “One Click Installs”
Select WordPress
Install a new instance
Select the domain, and click on “Check Domain”
Install is underway!
Install Finished, Click on the view button to get your username and passwords for this wordpress install.
