Mac 101 – How to share your screen on your Mac?

HI there here is a quick tip to share your screen on you mac. This is helpful If you ever wanted to share your screen with friends or family, or want to view your “desktop” on their laptop. Like facetime except for the desktop. Perhaps two people want to troubleshoot together, Then Screen Sharing can help. You can actively the remote screen and troubleshoot. Tremendous time saver!. The Mac OS has something already builtin for you to share your screen. Follow this guide to activate it!

(Note: This technology has been around a long time, If you are on a PC, There will be an upcoming guide for that as well. These steps are a lot easier if both of you are on the same network, if you you would like to do this over the Internet (WAN) check out the Teamviewer or Logmein Review / Steps, both Teamviewer and Logmein are cross platform and Windows compatible. I’ll also put a guide together on that)

Dock: Open your system Preferences on your dock

System Preferences: Click on “Sharing”

Next Click on “Screen Sharing” on the left. Make note of your Computer Name (highlighted in yellow), this is how you can tell the other person to connect to view your screen.

Security Note: Pay close attention to the “Allow access for ” dialogue box (Red arrow), this is where you specify which username can view your screen. Add or remove users as necessary.

Share away! Now head to another computer on your network, here are the instructions for someone on another mac to view your screen.
to actually view your screen.

Finder Menu: Now to actually share your screen, click somewhere on your desktop. Click on “Go” or Keyboard Shortcut: Command + K

 

Go Gadget Go! Select connect to server. In the server address, you will type VNC + The name of the computer you want to connect to, in this format: vnc://MBA

Remember you can get your remote computer’s name from the System Preferences, Then the Sharing Tab

Remote Desktop provides a simple way to troubleshoot or just view another computer on the same network. It is possible to do this over the Internet but you will require a addon on software such as Teamviewer to get similar functionality.
